Meetings

People at meetings

The San Diego Horticultural Society meets on the second Monday of
every month from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Surfside Race Place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Mingle with rose enthusiasts, nursery owners, palm fanatics and plant breeders. We’re a diverse and neighborly group!

Everyone is welcome to attend the monthly meetings, which are free for members and $10 for non-members. Parking is free for everyone attending. One meeting a year is a Special Speakers event; the date and location for that meeting varies each year.

Here’s what goes on at SDHS meetings:

Speakers and Special Events

Author Pat WelshOur monthly speakers are experts in their fields and passionate about their interests. Speakers usually begin their presentations at 6:45 p.m.

Once a year we feature a Special Speakers event. See Events.

Plant Forum
Members bring plants and cuttings from home to place on display. An expert horticulturist discusses many of them and is also happy to answer your garden related questions. All the plants are listed in our monthly newsletter, with full descriptions provided for about 15-20 selections. We also publish the Plant Forum Compilation CD, with information on over 5,000 plants that have appeared at our meetings since 1994.
Go to the Garden Shop to purchase this CD.

Plant Sales
At most meetings vendors sell unusual and high quality plants or other garden related items. Vendor sales usually take place from 6 to 6:45 p.m., and again during the break after the speaker.

Lending Library
During meetings, members can check out books or videos at no cost from our extensive lending library.
